Kamen Tsvetanov is a cognitive neuroscientist and an Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Research Leader Fellow at the Department of Clinical Neurosciences, University of Cambridge. Initially trained in engineering in Giessen, Germany, he later transitioned to neuroscience, earning his doctorate from the University of Birmingham, UK. Kamen has since worked at the University of Cambridge, progressing from research associate to fellow while conducting research on ageing and dementia.
His work focuses on protecting brain function in individuals at risk of dementia. By combining cognitive theory with advanced neuroimaging methods and principle of biomedical engineering, he aims to identify the factors that contribute to brain resilience and their impact on cognitive abilities, such as thinking and memory, throughout the ageing process.
This programme of research has received support from the British Academy, the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research, the Guarantors of Brain, the Alzheimer’s Research UK and, most recently, the Alzheimer’s Society. Kamen serves as a senior team member at the Cambridge Centre for Frontotemporal Dementia and the Cambridge Centre for Ageing and Neuroscience, University of Cambridge.
