It was with great sadness that the Churchill Archives Centre learned of the death of Averil Condren, our longest serving and most loyal volunteer and the extra member of our team.
It is a relationship that began in the 1990s. A trained archivist, she accompanied her husband Conal from Australia on his annual research trips. They would stay in College. He would do his research, she would help us catalogue our collections.
Averil died on 25 October 2023. Before she passed, during her final visit to the UK this summer, she recorded this short piece for our 50th anniversary. It is a fitting tribute, in her own words. Our deepest sympathies are with Conal and her family.
