JCR & MCR

The JCR Committee is an annually elected group of undergraduates that work to represent the interests of Churchill’s undergraduate student body both within the College and to Cambridge University Students’ Union (CUSU).  The MCR is the postgraduate student association of Churchill College and supports the interests of Churchill College’s Advanced students.

Both JCR and MCR have officers representing the interests and welfare of students across a number of areas. They also sit on College Committees, and organise an active programme of social events across the year.

Formal Halls

Formal Hall dinners offer the opportunity to have a change from the regular College dinners but they also offer the chance to talk with and meet fellow College members in a slightly more formal, but still relaxed, environment.

Formal Halls are on Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays starting at 7.30pm and consist of a three-course served meal with coffee. Wine is not provided. Students are allowed to bring one bottle of wine between two people to Formal Halls. This rule is strictly enforced and the Hospitality Managers will confiscate any excess alcohol. High Table will dine with the students in the hall on Formal Hall nights.

To attend these events, please sign up no later than 24 hours on Monday to Friday and 48 hours on Sunday in advance via the Formal Hall booking system. Once signed in you will be charged unless you cancel within the cancelation deadline.

Examination information

University exams for undergraduates usually take place during Easter Term (April to June each year).

All Cambridge undergraduate courses are assessed through examinations in broad subject areas called Triposes. Each Tripos is divided into one or more Parts and you need to complete a number of Parts in one or more Triposes to qualify for the B.A. degree. Some subjects have preliminary exams which do not count towards an Honours Degree but will indicate your progress. Tripos exams do count towards your Honours Degree.

You must make your exam entries yourself through CamSIS (University of Cambridge online Student Information System), once instructed by email to do so by the Tutorial Office. Most exam entries are then verified in Lent Term. If you wish to change your choice of papers after you have enrolled then you must speak to your DoS immediately, and changes cannot be accommodated after the end of Lent Term.

Please find further University guidance on exams here:
