The Churchill College Enterprise Competition aims to support the entrepreneurial skills of current students and alumni, developing leaders of the future. The programme offers training and development for all participants, regardless of whether they choose to enter a business idea for the competition or not. It is open to all Churchill College students and alumni.
In the 2023 competition, teams pitched business ideas for £3000 of prizes. The programme was supported by our fantastic alumni who helped make this event so successful by mentoring teams, joining the judging panel and supporting financially.
Particular thanks to Churchill alumni Malcolm Brinded who generously sponsored £3000 of prizes, and Dimitrios Roxanas, whose firm, S&T Bookkeeping, provided first year accounting support.
Genvia were this year’s sponsors of the hugely successful pitching finals.
Participants follow a programme from competition launch and team formation, through to training in how to start a business and enterprise ideation. Teams are assigned mentors, and networking events support the development of projects and contacts.
At the end of the programme, enterprise proposals are submitted and shortlisted by a judging panel, with finalists invited to present their ideas at a grand final event.
Examples of projects which have made it to the final include:
- an anti-counterfeiting nanocrystal film whose applications include protecting medication
- autonomous drone battery change that can operate without human intervention
- a wearable Near Infra-red Spectroscopy (NIRS) system and screening algorithm to detect early-stage dementia
Churchill Enterprise launches in January of each year, with the final typically happening in late March. Details of the next programme will be shared here when available.
